Make a Donation

Even with available government grants, other public funding, and a mortgage, our affordable housing project will need financial support from the Gabriola community. Please consider donating whatever you can afford.

Gabriola Housing Society is a registered Canadian charitable organization with business number #BN82578 1131 RR0001. You will receive a charitable tax-deduction receipt for your donation.

Donating Directly to GHS

You may donate directly to the GHS account at Coastal Community Credit Union (Gabriola branch) by direct deposit, or by e-transfer to gabriolahousingsociety@gmail.com. At the same time please let us know by email your full name and contact information. Thank you for your support! The Society will issue tax receipts annually.

If you prefer, you can mail a personal cheque to us at the address below (be sure to include your full name and contact information):

Donating Online

The Canada Helps form appearing below is a secure and simple way to donate online, and they will issue your tax receipt immediately for a one-time donation. Alternatively, you can make small (or large!) automatic monthly transfers from your bank account or credit card. Tax receipts are issued annually for monthly donations. You can also donate securities. All donations may be anonymous if you wish.

Legacy Giving

You can continue to make the world a better place by making a charitable bequest to Gabriola Housing Society in your will. Your legacy would continue to support our housing initiatives in the long term. You have a wide range of options for planned legacy gifts, including money, securities, or real estate.

Your real estate gift could be either:

  • a piece of land suitable for building affordable housing
  • a property with a home on it that could be maintained by GHS to be rented affordably, or
  • a property that could be sold for revenue to support GHS’s work elsewhere on Gabriola.

In addition to helping others to carry on the work you value, there are potential tax benefits for the donor, especially when donating securities. Speak to your financial advisor about how a charitable bequest can benefit your current finances or your estate, as well as GHS.

Donating Securities

GHS is grateful for all cash donations, large and small, but if you have investments in securities (stocks and bonds) you may find it financially advantageous to donate them directly through Canada Helps rather than selling them first and donating the resulting cash. This Table shows you why:
